Frank Fernie is a York resident who travelled to London for the 26th March “March for the Alternative”. During the clashes between protestors and police, Frank – having been assaulted and kettled by police – wound up throwing two pieces of balsa wood at police, neither of which hit anyone or caused any damage.
The judge jailed him for twelve months.
Activists, friends and family subsequently launched the Free Frank Fernie campaign (website, blog, Facebook). Frank was initially detained at Feltham Young Offenders institute but has recently been moved to Littlehey in Cambridgeshire; new contact details are as follows:

Frank has recently been the subject of articles in the Morning Star (A life changed forever…, A political coming of age), and campaigners will be running a stall at the York Peace Festival on Sunday 4th September in Rowntree Park.
